“Korea Should Become More Open-Minded” Jung Woo-sung’s Fans Mention Ronaldo Amid Extramarital Child Scandal
On Nov 25th, a statement from fans was posted on the “Jung Woo-sung Gallery” of the online community DC Inside.
The statement read, “Regarding the recent controversy surrounding actor Jung Woo-sung’s personal life, fans firmly believe in his strong will and fully support the agency’s position that ‘as a father, he will do his best for the child’.”
They continued, “Considering the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the world’s greatest soccer players, we sincerely hope that this incident serves as an opportunity for Korea to embrace more open-minded thinking and for the development of its pop culture.”
However, they also emphasized, “To protect the reputation he has built as an actor and an honorary ambassador, we strongly urge Jung Woo-sung to provide a clear explanation at the Blue Dragon Film Awards on Nov 29th.”
Fans cited Jung Woo-sung’s history as an advocate, noting, “Since 2014, Jung Woo-sung has served as the honorary ambassador for the UNHCR Asia-Pacific region. He once stated, ‘Interest in refugees isn’t just about helping people in need; it’s a statement on how we can eliminate conflicts altogether.’“
Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation was also brought up as a parallel. Ronaldo fathered a son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., with another woman while dating model Irina Shayk. After DNA testing confirmed paternity, Ronaldo openly acknowledged his son. Later, he had twins via surrogacy, followed by two daughters with his fiancée Georgina Rodríguez.
Jung Woo-sung is nominated for Best Actor at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards for his role in “12.12: The Day”. Other nominees include Lee Sung-min (Handsome Guys), Lee Je-hoon (Escape), Choi Min-sik (Exhuma) and Hwang Jung-min (12.12: The Day).
However, with mounting criticism over the extramarital child scandal, Jung Woo-sung is reportedly reconsidering his attendance at the ceremony.
The controversy erupted after Dispatch reported on Nov 24th that Moon Gabi’s son was fathered by Jung Woo-sung. His agency Artist Company later confirmed, “The child Moon Gabi revealed through SNS is indeed Jung Woo-sung’s biological child. Discussions are underway to determine the best approach to parenting. As a father, Jung Woo-sung will fulfill his responsibilities to the child.”
However, the agency refrained from commenting on whether Jung Woo-sung and Moon Ga bi plan to marry.
Jung Woo-sung and Moon Gabi reportedly became close after meeting at a gathering in 2022.
